Tuition fees

The Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), being a part of the State University of New York, receives substantial state funding and support from the Department of Education of the City of New York. For all newly matriculating students, including visiting students and those enrolling in bachelor’s degree programs, a nonrefundable advance tuition deposit of $150 is required to confirm their acceptance upon admission notification.

  • Associate-level New York City/State residents: $2,645 per semester*
  • Associate-level out-of-state residents: $7,935 per semester

  • Baccalaureate-level out-of-state residents: $10,846 per semester

*Students eligible for the Excelsior Scholarships program will follow the specific guidelines of that program.

Evening, Weekend, Summer, and Winter Sessions (Credit Certificate Program Only)

  • Associate-level New York City/State residents: $220 per credit*

  • Baccalaureate-level out-of-state residents: $904 per credit*

It is crucial to note that tuition and fees are subject to change without prior notice at the discretion of the college’s Board of Trustees. Payments made via check or money order must be in the exact amount in U.S. dollars.

Residency for Tuition Purposes

U.S. citizens and permanent resident aliens must establish legal residence in New York State for at least one year before the semester’s first day to qualify as state residents for tuition purposes. The domicile, defined as a fixed permanent home, must be maintained for the specified duration. Students under 24, whose parents or legal guardians reside out of state, need to demonstrate financial independence and a New York State domicile for residency designation.

Applications for residency status changes are available at FIT’s Bursar’s Office, and completed applications with supporting documents must be submitted before the semester’s registration period ends. Specific residency documentation requirements apply to New York City and New York State residents, and compliance is mandatory for eligibility for in-state resident tuition rates. New York State residents residing outside the five boroughs of New York City must submit a County Certificate of Residence annually. This certificate, issued by the student’s county of residence, should be filed with FIT’s Bursar’s Office at the start of each academic year.
